Emergency Government Formed to Combat Hamas
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant have established an emergency government to confront the threat posed by Hamas.
In response to a deadly attack carried out by Hamas militants over the weekend, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formed an emergency government alongside former defence chief Benny Gantz and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. The surprise assault, which claimed the lives of at least 1,200 people, marks the deadliest Palestinian militant attack in Israel’s history.
Netanyahu and Gantz have set aside their differences and united in the face of this grave threat. They emphasized that the fate of their state hangs in the balance, urging the need for a strong and resolute response.
Massive Retaliation and Potential Ground Invasion Looms
Israel has launched a massive bombardment of Gaza in response to the attack, resulting in the deaths of 1,055 people. Thousands of troops have been deployed around the enclave, leading to growing expectations of a ground invasion to eliminate Hamas once and for all.
Netanyahu, Gantz, and Gallant believe that Hamas poses a greater danger than ISIS, comparing the group’s assault to the brutal killings perpetrated by the Islamic State. Gallant, the defence minister, declared that Hamas, also referred to as ISIS-Gaza, will be wiped off the face of the earth and cease to exist. Gantz, a former Israeli defence chief and general, echoed this sentiment, stating that now is a time for war.
Emergency Government’s Focus on Hamas
The emergency government, as stated in a joint statement by Netanyahu and Gantz, will prioritize the ongoing conflict with Hamas and refrain from engaging in unrelated policies or laws. Opposition leader Yair Lapid is not expected to join the emergency government at this stage.
With tensions escalating, the Israeli government is determined to eliminate the threat posed by Hamas and restore peace and security to their nation. The formation of this emergency government serves as a testament to the seriousness of the situation and the commitment of Israeli leaders to protect their people.
