Russian Drone Attacks Injure Civilians and Damage Infrastructure
Russia launched drone attacks overnight on Kyiv and southern Ukraine, causing damage to a gas pipeline and residential buildings in the river and sea port of Mykolaiv. At least one civilian was injured in the attacks, Ukraine’s military reported on Sunday.
Ukraine’s Air Force Destroys Majority of Russian-Launched Drones
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that its air defence systems successfully destroyed 40 out of 45 Russia-launched Shahed attack drones overnight. The air alert in the capital, Kyiv, lasted almost two hours, with all drones downed on their approach.
No Casualties Reported in Kyiv
Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, stated that there were no casualties or destruction in or near the capital as all the drones were downed on their approach. Skies over Kyiv were declared clear soon before 4 a.m. (0200 GMT).
Southern Ukraine Engages in Lengthy Air Defence
Ukraine’s southern military command reported that its air defence systems were engaged for more than five hours, destroying 26 out of 45 Russia-launched Shahed drones over several southern regions, particularly in the Mykolaiv region near the Black Sea.
Damage in Mykolaiv and Odesa
Falling debris from a downed drone and the blast wave damaged residential buildings and a gas pipeline in Mykolaiv. Additionally, four drones were downed over the Black Sea port of Odesa, as reported by the military.
