Thousands of Culinary Union Members to Rally for New Union Contract in Las Vegas
Culinary Union Plans Rally and Civil Disobedience Action
The Culinary Workers Union has announced that thousands of its members will gather for a rally next week on the Las Vegas Strip. In addition to the rally, some members will also participate in a civil disobedience action. The purpose of these events is to support the ongoing efforts to secure a new five-year union contract.
Hospitality Workers in Detroit Lead the Way
The decision to hold the rally comes after thousands of hospitality workers in Detroit went on strike earlier this week. Workers at MGM Grand Detroit, Hollywood Casino at Greektown, and MotorCity Casino all participated in the strikes organized by the unions. The Las Vegas rally will take place on the Las Vegas Strip, off Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard, with a portion of the workers engaging in a civil disobedience action right in the middle of the Strip.
Culinary Union’s Ongoing Negotiations
Approximately two weeks ago, union workers from the Culinary Workers and Bartenders Unions picketed in front of eight MGM and Caesars resort locations. This was the first time in almost two decades that such an action took place. The unions are seeking a new contract that offers improved wages and benefits, especially considering the record profits being generated by casino operators. Negotiations between the unions and MGM, Caesars Entertainment, and Wynn Resorts have been ongoing since October.
MGM Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, and Wynn Resorts Remain Silent
Despite the significant impact of these negotiations, MGM Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, and Wynn Resorts have not provided any comments regarding the ongoing discussions. The Culinary Union is hopeful that these negotiations will result in a mutually beneficial agreement for all parties involved.
It is clear that the Culinary Union is determined to fight for the rights and well-being of its members. The upcoming rally and civil disobedience action in Las Vegas will serve as a powerful display of unity and determination. The workers’ demands for improved wages and benefits are justified, considering the success of the casino industry. Let us hope that these negotiations will lead to a fair and favorable outcome for all.
