Ethereum (ETH) Developers Tease Major Step Ahead of Deneb Release

Preparing for the Deneb-Cancun Upgrade

Ethereum (ETH) developers are making significant progress in preparation for the upcoming Deneb-Cancun upgrade. They have recently hinted at the launch of Devnet #10, which is expected to be the final devnet before the upgrade is released on public testnets like Goerli.

Waiting on Client Teams

According to Barnabas Busa, a DevOps engineer for Ethereum Foundation, the next devnet, Devnet #10, is dependent on the readiness of client teams for new software releases. Once these releases are ready, the devnet will likely be launched.

The Summoning: Deneb Release for CL Clients

Ethereum has announced the release of a new Deneb version, v1.4.0-beta.3, for CL clients, which has been dubbed “the summoning.” This release includes two main changes.

  • Mainnet KZG Configurations: The formatting work required to finalize the output from Ethereum’s trusted setup ceremony has been completed and is now included in the latest CL spec release.
  • New Gossip Rule: This rule ensures that CL nodes do not transmit more blobs than the maximum allowed per block, which is currently set at six blobs. It prevents validators from spamming the network with invalid messages exceeding this limit.

Client Release: v4.1.0

Another Ethereum client, undisclosed, has released version v4.1.0. This release establishes the groundwork for Deneb support and includes new features such as decreasing memory with multi-value slices, optimizing block processing with EIP-4881, boosting portable build performance with BLST0.3.11, and providing live previews of multiarch containers.

This article offers a comprehensive overview of the recent developments in Ethereum’s preparations for the Deneb-Cancun upgrade. It highlights the progress made in the Devnet #10 launch, the release of the new Deneb version for CL clients, and the latest client release. These advancements showcase Ethereum’s commitment to enhancing its network and providing a more efficient and secure platform for its users.
