Perry Johnson, a businessman and long-shot contender for the Republican presidential nomination, announced his withdrawal from the 2024 White House race on Friday.

Challenges faced by Johnson

Johnson faced numerous challenges throughout his campaign, ultimately leading to his decision to drop out. Due to a lack of donors and minimal support in polls, he failed to qualify for the two Republican presidential debates held this year. Adding to his woes, his attempt to run for Michigan governor last year was thwarted when his campaign filed invalid nominating signatures.

Johnson’s message to supporters

In a message to his supporters, Johnson explained his decision, stating, “With no opportunity to share my vision on the debate stage, I have decided at this time suspending my campaign is the right thing to do.” Despite his exit from the race, Johnson expressed his unwavering commitment to supporting Republicans across the country in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Another contender bows out

Will Hurd, a former Texas congressman and another long-shot contender, also dropped out of the Republican nominating race on October 9.

Trump maintains frontrunner status

Former Republican President Donald Trump continues to be the clear frontrunner in the race to become the party’s White House standard-bearer next year. Leading the polls of likely Republican voters, Trump holds a significant lead of about 40 percentage points over his closest rivals, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

With the exit of Perry Johnson and Will Hurd, the Republican race for the presidential nomination becomes narrower, further solidifying Trump’s dominance in the field.
