Ex-Trump Organization CFO Weisselberg Pleads Guilty to Perjury
Former CFO Pleads Guilty
Former Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg pleaded guilty to perjury charges on Monday, adding to the legal troubles of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s long-time loyal deputy.
Guilty Plea Details
Weisselberg admitted to two perjury counts during a hearing before Judge Laurie Peterson in a Manhattan court. He was handcuffed and led into the courtroom after surrendering to authorities earlier that day.
Sentence and Charges
Judge Peterson announced a five-month jail sentence for Weisselberg. The perjury charges relate to his testimony in a civil fraud trial against Trump and a deposition in the same case.
Financial Fraud Allegations
In his testimony, Weisselberg denied involvement in an incorrect valuation of Trump’s Manhattan penthouse, which the New York Attorney General deemed part of a fraudulent scheme to deceive lenders.
Additional Legal Troubles
Weisselberg faces further legal challenges as Trump’s criminal trial in Manhattan approaches. Trump is accused of falsifying business records to conceal payments to a porn star before the 2016 election.
Trump’s Denial
Trump has refuted all accusations, labeling them as politically motivated attacks to hinder his potential third presidential run in 2024. He has pleaded not guilty to multiple criminal charges.
End of Loyalty
Weisselberg, who served the Trump family for fifty years, is not expected to cooperate against the former president. He previously spent time in jail for tax fraud related to the Trump Organization.
Company’s Legal Troubles
In a 2022 trial, the Trump Organization was found guilty of all charges, resulting in a $1.6 million fine. Trump himself was not implicated in that case.
