U.S.-Led Coalition Defends Conoco Oil Field in Syria
Coalition Forces Thwart Drone Attacks at Conoco Oil Field
In eastern Syria, air defense systems operated by U.S.-led coalition troops successfully intercepted six drone attacks aimed at their base at the Conoco oil field. A security source revealed that the attacks took place on Saturday. However, it was not disclosed whether there were any casualties resulting from the incidents.
Escalating Attacks by Iran-Backed Groups
Amidst their efforts to combat remnants of the Islamic State group, coalition troops and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been facing an increase in attacks by Iran-backed groups in Syria and Iraq. The surge in aggression followed Hamas’s attack against Israel on October 7.
General Mazloum Abdi Calls for Additional Air Defense Systems
General Mazloum Abdi, the head of the SDF, expressed the urgent need for the U.S. to deploy additional air defense systems to Syria in order to safeguard their bases. This request came after six SDF fighters were killed in one of the drone attacks. Another drone attack, attributed to Iran-backed groups, resulted in the deaths of three U.S. soldiers at a border outpost in Jordan.
These incidents highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by coalition forces in the region, necessitating proactive measures to ensure the safety of military personnel and the defense of strategic assets.
